WINNER of the
2010 Denver Regional Competition!
During a period of two days and over 60 matches, 42 teams from across Colorado and the U.S. competed using their custom designed and built robots to see which three-team alliance would achieve a place at the F.I.R.S.T. world championship robotics competition at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The alliance comprising teams from Fairview High School, Nederland High School, and Catlin Gabel School in Oregon achieved this honor by winning the competition at the 2010 FIRST Robotics Denver Regional Competition.
Fairview’s success was especially gratifying considering the team’s rough start this year. After losing the use of our former sponsor’s machine shop (Fairview lacks one of its own) and having trouble raising funds due to the economic downturn, the Black Knights were in danger of not being able to build a robot at all. Luckily we found a guardian angel in the form of David Clark and the Monarch High School robotics team – they offered Fairview the opportunity to build and store their robot in Monarch’s DaVinci lab, an offer that we quickly accepted. Monarch’s team played a key role in helping us keep our team together this season, and as a result, Monarch was awarded the Gracious Professionalism Award at the conclusion of the Denver competition.
