The Fairview High School Robotics Team, The Black Knights, was founded during the 2006-2007 school year, to provide an opportunity for students at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado to participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

Our rookie year during the 2007 season was an enormous success. We successfully designed, built, programmed, and tested our robot during the 6-week build period of January and February 2007. Our rookie competition was at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Denver, Colorado in March, 2007. Although we didn’t qualify for the national finals, our rookie robot performed admirably.

During our second competition in 2008 we also did quite well, holding on to third pace for a significant period of the overall competition. Our robot ultimately competed in the quarter finals along with two other team robots as part of the Blue Alliance.  We competed yet again in 2009.

In 2010, we were thrilled and proud to win the Denver Regional Championship in March. We traveled to Atlanta for the World Championship competition and finished in the top third. We are eagerly looking forward to the 2011 build season.

Meetings:

During the beginning of the school year, before the build season starts, we will meet weekly at Fairview.

After the season kickoff in early January, we will meet five times per week at the Monarch workshop in Louisville, in the Da Vinci lab.

More about FIRST Robotics:

FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a national organization that is dedicated to inspiring young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual, international event that challenges high school students and their mentors to work towards a common goal of building a robot that will compete against other teams. The FIRST Robotics Competition is rapidly growing, and now encompasses every state in the nation and several other countries around the globe and includes thousands of teams, each with an average of 30-50 members.
